Need help with research?  Have a question about the collection or the UC Berkeley Library?  Here are three ways to get in touch with me:

Current Judicial and Legal Information

The California Judicial Branch includes County Superior Courts, State Appellate Courts, and the State Supreme Court.  Opinions are generally available from State Appeals Courts and the State Supreme Court.  Opinions for Superior Courts are found  only at the court where the trial took place (except in very rare cases).

Historic Judicial and Legal Information

The links below provide historic California legal and judicial information.

Self-Help Court Information

The California Courts provide a number of tools that can aid in legal self-help.

Non-court sources

  • Nolo Press -- Nolo specializes in self-help legal materials, and has a bookstore in Berkeley.
  • County Law Libraries -- Each county in California has its own law library and can assist anyone looking for legal materials.  Please note that librarians cannot interpret the law or provide legal advice.
  • LawHelpCA -- Run by the Legal Aid Association of California and Pro Bono Net, provides self-help information and sources for free and low-cost legal help.
