Market and Industry Research

Business magazines and journals have major coverage of opportunities and trends in renewable energy industries.  Look in Business Source Complete and Factiva.  These are the best sources for coverage from Business Week, Fortune, WSJ, New York Times, Barrons, Venture Capital Journal, China Business Review, Engineering News Record, and many more industry specific business journals.


  • 2016 report on Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment -  annual reports from Frankfurt School in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme that detail aggregate government and industry investment in renewable energy worldwide. Some individual country data are available. 
  • Climatescope 2016 looks at investment, goverment policies related to renewables and greenhouse gas targets in 58 countries. 



Enipedia collects energy and industry data from various sources which can then be connected, queried using a SQL-like language, and visualized in various ways. Energy production,  storage, technologies, maps of power plants, energy flows, etc.

  • Economist, Business Week, Fortune, WSJ, New York Times, Barrons, Venture Capital Journal, China Business Review, have major coverage of opportunities and trends in clean tech. 

Energy Policy/Regulations

International Energy Association's Policies and measures database contains national level energy-related policies and measures taken or planned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and support renewable energy development and deployment.
