Find, Remix, & License Designs for 3D Printing

In this hands-on workshop, we'll help you find 3D designs that you can remix, show you how to perform basic edits, and walk you through copyright and other issues as you license your remixed or original designs for discovery and use by others. We'll use Thingiverse to find designs, and then discuss what we can do to remix what we find. We'll experiment with editing those designs or creating new ones of your own using Tinkercad. We'll share and license our designs so that other makers can find and use them, too.  After the workshop, you can head down to the makerspace on the first floor of Moffitt and get started with 3D printing the design you've created!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • If you want to get started making 3D-printed projects, this is the workshop for you. We'll introduce you to the basic tools for locating and editing designs, or creating your own. We'll also discuss what you're allowed to do with designs you find, and what you can do so that others can find and use the designs you create.
  • If you're already comfortable with modifying or creating your own 3D designs, but you've never explored what rights you have as an author with the stuff you find, remix, or create, check out this workshop! You'll learn the basics of copyright and licenses for 3D design, and which licenses to choose for your own creations.
