Origin of the Black Lives at Cal Black History Tour

The Black Lives at Cal Black History Tour was conceived by long-time staff member and alumna Gia White (‘86), Administrative Director of Global, International and Area Studies. This tour draws from White’s extensive research about the earliest Black students at UC Berkeley, a few of our many notable Black faculty members, and some of the special spaces that Black people have fought to create for Black people on campus.  This tour is not intended to be a full representation of Black history at Cal, but rather to serve as a starting point for further exploration.
