"Microform" is an umbrella term for microfiche, microfilm, microcards and microprints. Microform is usually film, but can also be on paper cardstock. These materials are micro-reproductions, about one twenty-fifth the size of the original document. The advantages of microform are preservation of rare and fragile materials, for greater accessibility and reduced storage space. Microform can be nearly any type of publication, e.g., book, journal, newspaper, government document, dissertation, manuscript, poetry, ephemera, etcetera.
