1.  keywords;  variant word endings

     cookbook*
 

* = truncation symbol/wildcard; child* = child, childs, children, childhood, childish...

on the left, limit to scholarly/peer reviewed articles; or limit to books, by language...

2.  phrases; combining two or more terms with an AND

    cookbook* AND "african american*" AND history

3.  limit by publication year (what other cookbooks were published in the 1950's?)

     date:  1950-1959

4.  look at official subject headings; click on the heading or redo the search as a subject search:

     advanced search

     pull down the "any field" menu to "subject": cookbooks
