Library access: Alumni, like other members of the public, are welcome to visit the Marian Koshland Bioscience, Natural Resources & Public Health Library (and most other UC Berkeley libraries). Check the website of the library you wish to visit to see hours, location, and any restrictions on or requirements for access:
Internet access: All patrons in the Bioscience Library and other campus libraries can access the Berkeley-Visitor wifi network, which provides access to the internet but not to library-licensed databases, journals or e-books. Patrons from Eduroam-participating institutions can log onto the eduroam network with their institutional credentials:
Access to databases, e-books, and e-journals: All patrons in the Bioscience Library and many other campus libraries can use public research access computers to access most of our databases and other electronic resources. Downloadable articles, book chapters and books can be saved to a personal USB drive.
Off-campus access: UC Berkeley Library's agreements with publishers and vendors limit access to most of our licensed resources to current UC Berkeley faculty, staff, students, and on-campus visitors using the library's computers. Off-campus access to most licensed resources is not currently available for alumni library card holders or Cal Alumni Association members.
Scanning and printing: All patrons in the Bioscience Library and many other campus libraries can scan books, journals, and other documents for free and save them to an email address, cloud storage, or a USB drive. Documents can be printed for a fee (Cal 1 Guest Card required for alumni and non-UCB patrons):
Library cards: California residents who are paid members of any of the 10 UC campus-sponsored alumni associations and are holding an active membership card may obtain a UC Berkeley library card with borrowing privileges. Any California resident may obtain a UC Berkeley library card with borrowing privileges for a fee.
Interlibrary borrowing: Alumni Association members and non-UCB library card holders are not eligible for interlibrary borrowing privileges at UC Berkeley libraries. Patrons who are not eligible for interlibrary borrowing through UC Berkeley may make requests at their local public library.
