Pacifica Foundation is the non-profit parent of the Pacifica Radio Network: KPFA, Berkeley, CA; KPFK, Los Angeles, CA; KPFT, Houston, TX; WBAI, New York City; WPFW, Washington, D.C.
Founded by a group of conscientious objectors who sought a medium in which to speak out against the military force of WWII, the first Pacifica station, KPFA went on the air in 1949.
The organization's mission is to:
Promote cultural diversity and pluralistic community expression
Promote freedom of press and serve as a forum for various viewpoints
Maintain an independent funding base
The first listener-supported radio station in the United States, and flagship of the Pacifica Radio Network since 1949. KPFA, 94.1 FM broadcasts community radio to most of Northern California
PRA preserves and distributes current and historic programs from five Pacifica radio stations and Pacifica National Programs
