The UC Berkeley Library exists within a rapidly changing information and research landscape. Technological advancements have revolutionized the way our university community accesses and uses information in their teaching, learning, and research work. We are committed to supporting our faculty, students, and staff by pushing the boundaries of scholarly resource access and acquisition strategies.
To accomplish the above, we...
- Employ strategic and sustainable practices to provide access to the world's research and cultural heritage collections.
- Collect, curate, and collaborate to provide access to broad, diverse, unique and emerging areas of scholarly resources required to support the current research and instructional programs at UC Berkeley.
- Strive to empower scholars and students to utilize existing as well as new and emerging formats and methods of research
- Commit to improving the accessibility of scholarly resources for all users.
- Adapt proactively as budgets, publishing formats, faculty research interests, research methodologies, and pedagogical approaches evolve over time.
- Commit to preserving selected scholarly resource content for future generations of scholars.
- Strive for transparency in our collecting practices and pledge to shape them through engagement with our diverse users.
- Recognize and strive to address systemic inequities and biases within our work and in the ethical stewardship of our collections.
- Commit to advancing open content available to all, including through prioritizing open access investments, and supporting open educational resources, open source partnerships, and digitization initiatives.
- Collaborate and partner with UC Berkeley campus departments, other UC campuses, the California Digital Library, and other institutions and organizations to extend access to scholarly resources beyond what Berkeley can provide alone.
