Library Space Updates & Hours

Engineering & Mathematical Sciences Library

On June 23, after a two-year closure, the Kresge Engineering & Mathematical Sciences Library officially opened on the lower level of the Grimes Engineering Center. The Kresge Library now houses collections and services to support the College of Engineering, the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society, and the Department of Mathematics, following the merger of the Mathematics Statistics Library into the space. Features of the Kresge Library include:

  • Long operating hours during the academic year
  • Improved air-cooling systems for your comfort
  • Reservable group study rooms
  • Comfortable lounge seating
  • Dedicated quiet study carrels
  • Collaborative study spaces
  • A REST Zone for quick naps and rejuvenation

The engineering and mathematics collections are still being integrated in the Kresge Library so please ask our staff if you have any trouble locating an item.

Resource Updates

Accuris Engineering Workbench

We are thrilled to announce that online access has been restored to ASHRAE and AASHTO standards through the Accuris Engineering Workbench platform. UC Berkeley affiliated users can authenticate with their CalNetID. Our license includes full text access to standards and guidelines published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and standards, specifications, guidelines and manuals from The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

Dewey Data

Dewey provides licensed access to datasets provided by corporate partners in the following subject areas: urban planning and real estate, behavioral economics and public policy, marketing and management, and corporate finance. This includes data on construction sites, building permits, and supply chains.

Hexagon satellite imagery for California

High resolution (up to 15cm) aerial imagery covering California every two years, starting in 2020 and including 2022 and 2024. Selected urban coverage is also available for 2018/2019. The State of California contracts with Hexagon geospatial to collect the imagery and makes it available to state and local government agencies, as well as public education institutions. Streaming access is available through ArcGIS Online. Contact Susan for downloading options.

Planet Labs satellite imagery

Daily satellite images of the Earth’s land surfaces and coastal areas. Natural color, near infra-red, and other multi-channel imagery products are available with 5m, 3.7m and 50cm ground pixel resolution. Images are exportable to GIS systems or can be viewed and analyzed using Planet's website and tools. Access is restricted to UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab faculty, staff, and students. See the Library's Remote Sensing guide for more information and a link to the required registration form.

MRS Online Proceedings Library

This archive provides access to more than 70,000 peer-reviewed papers from Materials Research Society (MRS) symposia between 1980 and 2016. It contains a wealth of valuable research in materials science and engineering. Since 2016, papers from the symposia have been published in the journal MRS Advances.

SIAM Membership

Thanks to the Library's membership in the Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (SIAM), not only do we get access to the SIAM journals, UC Berkeley graduate students can sign up for free student memberships in the organization. Faculty who are SIAM members also have the option to nominate up to two undergraduate students for free student memberships.
