Bio 1B Research Skills Guide: Searching for articles: Finding literature reviews

Finding literature reviews

Finding Literature Reviews in BIOSIS Previews

  1. Conduct a search on your topic (see Searching by topic)
  2. Towards the bottom of the Refine Results menu on the left side click on Literature Types (you may need to scroll down)
  3. Click on the arrow next to Literature Types to see your options
  4. Select the Literature Review checkbox, then click Refine (Learn more about literature reviews)
  5. If you don't see the Literature Review option under Literature Types, try clicking See all

BIOSIS Previews refine results under the Literature Types menu by clicking on the Literature Review limit and then Refine

If the Literature Review limit doesn't appear under the Literature Types menu, it means that there are no literature reviews in your original search results. You may want to broaden your search, then try limiting to literature reviews again.

If the Literature Types menu doesn't appear, be sure you are searching BIOSIS Previews and not All Databases, Web of Science Core Collection, or any other Web of Knowledge database. Go to the Search page and select BIOSIS Previews from the drop-down menu next to Search in:

Select BIOSIS Previews in the Search in menu

Other databases such as PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, and Scopus also enable you to limit to literature reviews; if you need help, please contact a librarian.
