Comparative Study of Genocide: Legal Sources

Introduction

This is a very brief introduction to major legal texts addressing the crime of genocide and resources such as legal databases useful for finding them.  There are also useful summaries of these legal texts, for example Genocide in International Law and the Humanization of Humanitarian Law. The Law Library has additional sources.

Legal Databases

Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals.  Commentary on, and full text of decisions of the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Rwanda (ICTR) and Timor-Leste, as well as The Special Court for Sierra Leone and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Hein Online. Provides full text to the early issues of many legal journals and law reviews.  Select the World Trials Library for international trials.  

Index to Legal Periodicals and Books/Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective. Indexes legal journals, yearbooks, institutes, university publications, law reviews, books, and government publications from the United States and selected foreign countries.

LegalTrac. Indexes journals, law reviews, and magazines related to legal research and commentary on case studies, government regulations, the practice of law, statutes, taxation, and international law.

Proquest Academic. Titles of international, national and local newspapers and wire services; radio and television transcripts; and business, and legislative magazines, newsletters, legal cases, and law reviews.  Geographic coverage and translations from foreign-language sources.
