Below are selected publishers who specialize in the areas of poverty and development as well as journals about the subject in gemeral (see the section on problem spaces for more).  University Press titles are also good and typically well-written sources.

Journals

The following is a selection of highly cited journals in the fields of poverty and development. 

World Development. Examines solutions to poverty, unemployment, malnutrition, disease, lack of shelter, environmental degradation, debt, gender, ethnic discrimination, and civil conflict.

Progress in Human Geography. Addresses human geography research: philosophical, theoretical, thematic, methodological and empirical.

The Lancet. One of the world's best known general medical journals, publishing research, editorials, book reviews, and news on all aspects of human health.

Journal of Development Studies. Articles on development relating to economics, politics, public policy, and practice.

Oxford Development Studies. Critical analysis of conventional theories and policy issues in development.

Development Policy Review. Covers poverty-reduction strategies, inequality, property rights, sustainable livelihoods, globalization in trade and finance, and global governance.

Studies in Comparative International Development. Addresses political, social, economic, and environmental change, including political institutions, economic growth and income distribution.

Development and Change. Interdisciplinary journal publishing unconventional analyses in development studies and social change.

Journal of International Development. Research on development issues in economics, politics, international relations, sociology, anthropology, and development studies.

Development. Provides dialogue between activists and intellectuals committed to the search for alternative paths of social transformation.

Third World Quarterly. Examines emerging issues affecting the developing world.

Publishers

The following publishers publish frequently in the areas of poverty, development and humanitarian relief.  

Oakland Institute.  Works in the areas of land rights, climate change, sustainable food systems, international aid, foreign investment and more.

Institute of Development Studies (IDS). Think tank based in the UK working on research, teaching and communications on international development, globalization, and social change.

International Development Research Center. Supports researchers from developing countries finding innovative solutions to local problems.

Intrac. Civil society research publisher working to link development practice with analysis. 

International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). Non-profit organization promoting sustainable patterns of world development through research, policy studies, and knowledge dissemination.

Overseas Development Institute. Think tank on international development and humanitarian issues.

Practical Action Publishing. Development publisher working with poor communities on renewable energy, food production, agro-processing, sustainable transport, water, sanitation, small enterprise development, shelter, and disaster reduction.

Oxfam (UK).  International confederation of organizations working to find lasting solutions to poverty and related injustice around the world

Polity Press.  Publishes books on globalization, politics, refugee studies and international relations.
