UCB Library Strategic Collections Acquisitions: About

About Strategic Collections Acquisitions

The Library allocates special funding to strategically acquire collections that one librarian alone cannot purchase with their collections budget.  The funds available for these purchases vary each year. These resources must adhere to the following general guidelines, though these may vary from year to year depending on the Library's goals for scholarly resource acquisition:

  • Strengthens support of new or expanding degree programs.
  • Supports new research areas, research methodologies, or scholarly processes.
  • Transforms formats to enable preservation and access.
  • Supports expanding the Library's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Justice (DEIBJ) collections
  • Supports multi/interdisciplinary collecting areas and topics

At the end of each fiscal year, the Library may use remaining collection funds to acquire titles that were proposed but not selected in the earlier strategic funding process, and these are included in this guide as well. This guide lists resources that have been acquired since FY2017-18 through this process, and also includes resource that have been acquired for all UC via the California Digital Library.
