The Bancroft Library holds company records in various industries such as lumber and mining, many dating as early as the mid-1800s. While not typically viewed as environmental collections, these materials provide insight on business practices that had great impact on the environment. In addition, they record the beginnings of the conflict between conservation and the exploitation of natural resources, as well as the need to manipulate and control water.
