Using Aeon to Request Materials at The Bancroft Library

This guide provides an introduction to Aeon, the special collections registration and requesting tool, at The Bancroft Library

How to Request Materials Using the Manual Request Form

Search the catalog (UC Library Search) to locate materials.

  • Please talk to a Reference Librarian or email us at bancref-library@berkeley.edu if you need help finding materials.

Look for a SPECIAL COLLECTIONS REQUEST link for the item in the UC Library Search record.

If there is no SPECIAL COLLECTIONS REQUEST link:

  1. Open a new browser tab or window and navigate to aeon.berkeley.edu.
  2. Log in to your Aeon account. (Don't have an Aeon account yet? Register as a new researcher following the instructions in the Register section of this guide).
  3. In your Aeon account, click the link to Request Materials for Reading Room Use
  4. Review the information on the next page, and click the Request Materials for Reading Room Use Form button.
  5. Complete the required fields, and pay special attention to the information at the bottom of the form. Please note that you may only request ONE item per form. If you need to request multiple items from the same collection, please use the Clone Request option.
  6. Make sure you have entered a Title, Call Number, and Volume/Container number (if applicable).
  7. Choose if you want to Submit Request to have the material brought to the Reading Room on your specified date(s) of visit, or if you want to save your request for later (Save Request).
  8. Click the Submit Request button.
  9. Confirm that your request has been submitted successfully by checking your Active Requests list on the main page of your Aeon account.
