Bancroft (library page) is UC Berkeley's primary special collections library and only focused on areas of interest to English students. They preserve manuscripts (unpublished and published) as well as authors' letters and notes. They also house hundreds of thousands of published materials including novels, poetry collections and broadsides, publishers' catalogs, autobiographical material, and more.

Notable collections include the papers of Mark Twain, Thom Gunn (catalog), Lawrence Ferlinghetti (catalog), Maxine Hong Kingston (catalog), and significant material by Nobel prize winner Seamus Heaney (catalog).
