Maps and More

resources from the regular collections show-and-tell at the Earth Sciences and Map Library

Maps and More is a map themed show-and-tell held at the Earth Sciences and Map Library, 50 McCone Hall several times each semester.

Maps and More events planned for Spring 2024 include:

Wednesday, February 28: Mexico - U.S. Border Maps

  • In collaboration with the Geography Department's Decolonial Border Geographies course (GEOG 167AC), the Earth Sciences & Map Library is putting on a Maps and More pop-up exhibit featuring maps of the Mexico - U.S. Border. The maps in this exhibit will help students and other visitors examine how the United States’ historical relationship with Mexico has shaped the production of its southern border.
  • Brief remarks at 12:15 PM by Diana Negrín da Silva, PhD (Lecturer in the Departments of Geography and Ethnic Studies, UC Berkeley)
  • Exhibit open 12 - 2 PM

Tuesday, March 12: Eclipse & Revelation: Total Solar Eclipses in Science, History, Literature, and the Arts

  • In collaboration with the Earth Sciences & Map Library, Art History/Classics Library, Art History and Astronomy departments, this pop up exhibit will feature maps and materials inspired by the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse and “Eclipse & Revelation,” a newly published book by Henrike Lange which shows total solar eclipses from the interdisciplinary perspectives of the sciences, arts, humanities, history, and theology. Join us to explore the representation of eclipses through maps, images, music, and film.

  • Exhibit open 12 - 2 PM
